AliveCor announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance for its algorithm to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib).

The algorithm quickly detects if patients are experiencing AFib through real-time electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings taken via the mobile phone-based AliveCor Heart Monitor. The AliveCor Heart Monitor can record, store, transfer ECG rhythms, and detect the presence of AFib under the care of a physician. This allows physicians to take action before it leads to a possibly fatal condition such as a stroke. The patient’s ECG recordings can also be confirmed with a United States board-certified cardiologist or a personal physician through the Company’s analysis service.
