AdvanDx announced the launch of Enterococcus QuickFISH BC, a rapid molecular diagnostic test that identifies potentially life threatening bloodstream infections caused by Enterococcus. The proprietary PNA technology enables identification of Enterococcus in 20 minutes directly from positive blood cultures – the same time as the reporting of Gram stain results.
The laboratory is able to report pathogen identification to clinicians with the Critical Value Gram stain result, which indicates a condition likely to have significant medical implications for the patient requiring immediate clinical intervention.
The new Enterococcus QuickFISH assay is available immediately. It is the newest addition to Staphylococcus QuickFISH BC, which was launched in September 2012 for the identification of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci. QuickFISH assays for use with gram-negative rods and Candida species are currently in development for launch in 2013.
