Chronic Dry Eye Med Available in Preservative-Free, Multidose Form

Allergan has announced the availability of Restasis Multidose (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.05%), a multidose, preservative-free preparation of Restasis. Until now, Restasis was only available in single-use vials.

Restasis, a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant, helps increase the eyes’ natural ability to produce tears in patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Increased tear production was not seen in patients currently taking topical anti-inflammatory drugs or using punctal plugs. 

Restasis Multidose uses Allergan’s patented unidirectional valve and air filter technology. The multi-dose bottle is supplied as 5.5mL in a 10mL bottle. Single-use, preservative-free vials of Restasis are currently available as well.
