B. Braun Medical announced that 1g and 2g cefepime for injection and dextrose for injection are available in B. Braun’s DUPLEX Drug Delivery System. DUPLEX is a ready-to-use two-compartment, flexible, eco-friendly IV container that stores pre-measured pharmaceuticals and diluent doses. To administer 1g or 2g cefepime through DUPLEX, healthcare professionals fold and squeeze the container and shake it to mix the pharmaceuticals and diluent. A barcode that references the final admixture, lot number and expiration date helps reduce medication errors, automate patient charting, track inventory, and facilitate reimbursement tracking.
Cefepime is a cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of susceptible infections, including moderate-to-severe pneumonia, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) including pyelonephritis, complicated intraabdominal in adults (w. metronidazole), as well as for use as empiric therapy in febrile neutropenia.
