Additional Recothrom vial size approved

The FDA has approved a 20000 IU vial size of Recothrom (recombinant topical thrombin, from ZymoGenetics) in addition to the 5000 IU vial already available. Additionally, a co-package of the 20,000 IU vial with ZymoGenetics’ Spray Applicator Kit has also been approved.

Recothrom is indicated as an aid to hemostasis whenever oozing blood and minor bleeding from capillaries and small venules is accessible and control of bleeding by standard surgical techniques is ineffective or impractical.

The 20000 IU vial of Recothrom and spray kits co-packaged with the larger vial are expected to be available in mid-June 2008.
