Eisai announced that Aciphex Sprinkle (rabeprazole sodium) Delayed-Release Capsules are now available for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in children 1–11 years old for up to 12 weeks.
This new formulation allows granule contents to be sprinkled on a spoonful of soft food or liquid.
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+, K+ATPase at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. Rabeprazole blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion.
Aciphex is already available as 20mg delayed-release enteric-coated tablets. Aciphex Sprinkle Delayed-Release Capsules are available in a 5mg and 10mg strengths in 30-count bottles.
