Leadless Cardiac Pacemaker

Cardiac pacemakers are the standard therapy for patients with bradyarrhythmias. The pacing lead is an integral part of the system that serves as a conduit for the delivery of energy pulses to stimulate the myocardium. Elimination of the pacing lead and the utilization of other means for energy transfer is the only way to avoid lead complications and allow a better choice of stimulation site.11 A recent study found an implant success rate of 97%, and a complication-free rate of 94%.12 Several studies are underway, as companies pursue FDA approval.6
