Yohimbine HCl is a natural product indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, however it is no longer readily available. This formulation of yohimbine should not be confused with yohimbine bark extract which is found in some OTC dietary supplements and is not FDA-approved for erectile dysfunction.

Michael is curious about the side effects of PDE5 inhibitors. He remembers seeing a commercial stating that erections could last hours. He is concerned by this.

The most common side effects associated with PDE5 inhibitors include flushing, lightheadedness, and dyspepsia. Prolonged erections greater than four hours and priapism (painful erections greater than 6 hours in duration) have been reported infrequently.

In the event of an erection that persists longer than four hours, the patient should seek immediate medical assistance. If priapism is not treated immediately, penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency could result. 

Concomitant use of CYP3A4 inducers may reduce the effects of PDE5 inhibitors.2
