The Coffee Drinking Habits of Doctors
Synopsis: By analyzing data from the 2014 staff canteens’ electronic payment systems, researchers were able to identify coffee habits of 766 qualified doctors. The data was taken from the same hospital in Switzerland. During the year, 84% of the doctors purchased coffee at one of the canteens. On average, orthopedic surgeons purchased the most coffee per person per year (average of 189), followed by radiologists (average of 177). Anesthetists purchased the least coffee (average of 39).
Conclusion: The data showed that surgeons drank significantly more coffee than physicians. Hierarchical position was also found to positively correlate with coffee consumption and generosity with regard to buying rounds of coffee.
