Indications for ZYRTEC HIVES RELIEF

Itching due to urticaria.

Adults and Children:

<6years: not recommended. ≥6years: initially 5–10mg once daily. ≥65years: use syrup: 5mg once daily. Hepatic or renal impairment: individualize.

Hives Relief: not used for prevention or as a substitute for epinephrine. Hepatic or renal dysfunction. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers: not recommended.

Potentiates CNS depression with alcohol, other CNS depressants.

Adverse Reactions for ZYRTEC HIVES RELIEF

Drowsiness, somnolence, fatigue, dry mouth, pharyngitis. Children: headache, pharyngitis, GI upset/pain, cough, somnolence, diarrhea, epistaxis, bronchospasm, fatigue, irritability, insomnia.

Xyzal gains expanded pediatric indication

The FDA has approved an expanded pediatric indication for Xyzal (levocetirizine dihydrochloride, from UCB and Sanofi-aventis) to include the relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis and the treatment of the uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria in children ≥6 months of age.

Leukotriene modifier drug label change requested by FDA

The FDA has requested that manufacturers of leukotriene modifiers include a precaution in the drug labeling regarding neuropsychiatric events that have been reported in some patients taking montelukast (Singulair, from Merck), zafirlukast (Accolate, from AstraZeneca) and zileuton (Zyflo CR from Cornerstone Therapeutics).
