The FDA is advising consumers to not purchase or consume the following weight loss or sexual enhancement products after hidden drug ingredients were confirmed by FDA laboratory analyses.

The affected weight loss products are “Bethel 30” and “Xiyouji Qingzhi.” These supplements were found to contain sibutramine, a controlled substance that was withdrawn in October 2010 for safety reasons

Sibutramine is known to increase blood pressure and/or pulse, and may pose a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. Sibutramine may also cause fatal interactions with other medications that the consumer may be taking.

The affected sexual enhancement products are as follows: “Reload,” “Get It Up,” “Super Cheetah,” “Cave Diver,” “Nights to Remember,” and “X Zen Platinum.” All were found to contain sildenafil, the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra (Pfizer). Sildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

Additionally, “X Zen Platinum” was found to contain tadalafil, the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis (Eli Lilly).

Consumers are urged to stop using this product immediately and throw it away. For those that have experienced any adverse events, a healthcare professional should be contacted as soon as possible.
