Mayo Clinic Researchers Discover Gene Biomarkers for Prostate Cancer Detection
Krishna Donkena, PhD, a researcher at the Mayo Clinic, discusses gene biomarkers (DNA methylation profiles) that her team discovered after analyzing over 14,000 genes from 238 tissue samples from prostate cancer patients. The DNA methylation profiles they identified that developed in the early stages of cancer were nearly identical in all patients, irrespective of the cancer's future progression. They hope to use the biomarkers as a new test for prostate cancer.
