Generic Name and Formulations:

Sodium sulfate 17.5g, potassium sulfate 3.13g and magnesium sulfate 1.6g; oral soln; polyethylene glycol 3350 210g, sodium chloride 5.6g, sodium bicarbonate 2.86g, potassium chloride 0.74g; pwd for oral soln; contain flavor packs (cherry, lemon-lime, orange, pineapple); 1g per pack.

Select therapeutic use:

Indications for SUCLEAR:

Colon cleansing before colonoscopy.

Adult:

Split-Dose regimen (preferred): Take 1st dose the evening before colonoscopy followed by 16oz of water over the next 2hrs and 16oz of water before bed. Consume 1st dose within 20 mins. Take 2nd dose, the next day at least 3.5hrs before colonoscopy. Complete drinking one 16oz drink every 20 mins for a total of four 16oz drinks 2hrs before colonoscopy. Consume clear liquids up until 2hrs before procedure. Day-Before regimen (alternative): Take 1st dose on the evening before the colonoscopy at least 3.5hrs before bedtime followed by 16oz of water over next 2hrs. Consume 1st dose within 20 mins. Take 2nd dose approximately 2hrs after 1st dose. Complete drinking one 16oz drink every 20 mins for a total of four 16oz drinks followed by 16oz of water before bed. Consume clear liquids up until 2hrs before procedure.

Children:

Not established.

Contraindications:

GI obstruction or ileus. Bowel perforation. Gastric retention. Toxic megacolon or colitis.

Warnings/Precautions:

Correct fluid/electrolyte abnormalities before use. History or risk of seizures. Renal impairment; consider baseline and post-colonoscopy lab tests. Increased risk of arrhythmias; consider pre-dose and post-colonoscopy ECGs. Mucosal ulcerations may occur; consider when interpreting findings in inflammatory bowel disease. Rule out GI obstruction/perforation before administering. Severe active ulcerative colitis. Impaired gag reflex. Risk of regurgitation or aspiration. Maintain adequate hydration. Pregnancy (Cat. C). Nursing mothers.

Interactions:

Avoid concomitant stimulant laxatives (eg, bisacodyl, sodium picosulfate). Concomitant alcohol may increase risk of dehydration; avoid on day before colonoscopy. Caution with drugs that increase risk of fluid/electrolyte abnormalities, arrhythmias, prolonged QT (eg, diuretics, corticosteroids, cardiac glycosides, NSAIDs, tricyclics, SSRIs, antipsychotics, carbamazepine) or that affect renal function (eg, ACEIs, ARBs). Caution with drugs that lower seizure threshold. Oral drugs given within 1 hour of start of administration may not be absorbed.

Pharmacological Class:

Osmotic laxative.

Adverse Reactions:

Discomfort, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache.
