Voluntary Recall Issued for Appetite Suppressant
Nature's Universe announced a voluntary recall of all lots of old Thinogenics product due to the presence of an undisclosed ingredient, to the user level. After a FDA analysis, it was determined that the undeclared ingredient was sibutramine.
Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant that was withdrawn from the U.S. market in October 2010 due to increased risk of seizures, heart attacks, arrhythmia and strokes. As a result of a FDA notification on February 13, 2014, Nature's Universe began selling a new, reformulated Thinogenics that does not contain sibutramine.
The old formulation of Thinogenics is packaged in 30-count bottles while the new formulation is packaged in 45-count bottles. Any of the remaining old Thinogenics product sold prior to February 6, 2014 is being recalled. The new formulation is not being recalled.
Nature's Universe recommends that consumers discontinue product purchased prior to February 6, 2014 and return the old formulation. Nature's Universe is notifying consumers by letter. This product is sold worldwide through the internet.
