Tainted Weight Loss, Men's Vitality Supplements Recalled
Blue Square Market, Inc. announced voluntary recalls of Kaboom Action Strips and LiDa DaiDaiHua due to the presence of undeclared active ingredients. Kaboom Action Strips are marketed for men's vitality and Lida DaiDaiHua is marketed as a weight loss supplement.
An analysis by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found Kaboom Action Strips to contain undeclared sulfoaildenafil and LiDa DaiDaiHua to contain sibutramine and phenolphthalein. Sulfoaildenafil may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels if taken together with some prescription drugs that contain nitrates (such as nitroglycerin). Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant withdrawn from the market in October 2010 due to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Phenolphthalein was also withdrawn from the U.S. market because of concerns of carcinogenicity.
The Kaboom Action Strips come in packages of 12 strips in a black box with a picture of the strip on the front, and LiDa DaiDaiHua is packaged in a light green and grey box with a picture of a woman on the front. The affected products include the following expiration dates: Kaboom (September 2017) and LiDa DaiDaiHua (January 2017).
Consumers that have purchased the recalled Kaboom Action Strips, from March 20, 2015 to July 7, 2015, and LiDa DaiDaiHua, from February 23, 2015 to May 7, 2015, should immediately stop using the recalled products and are asked to return them to Blue Square Market, Inc. where customers will be issued a full refund. Blue Square Market, Inc. is a retailer of the product and not the manufacturer nor the distributor.
