Generic Name and Formulations:

Paromomycin sulfate 250mg; caps.

Select therapeutic use:

Indications for Paromomycin Sulfate:

Adjunct therapy to management of hepatic coma.

Adult:

Usually 4g daily in divided doses for 5–6 days.

Children:

Not recommended.

Contraindications:

Intestinal obstruction.

Warnings/Precautions:

Evaluate if new infections develop during therapy. Ulcerative bowel lesions. Asthma. Aspirin hypersensitivity.

Pharmacological Class:

Antibiotic.

Adverse Reactions:

Nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea; overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms.

Indications for Paromomycin Sulfate:

Acute and chronic intestinal amebiasis.

Adults and Children:

Usually 25–30mg/kg daily given in 3 doses with meals for 5–10 days.

Contraindications:

Intestinal obstruction.
