Vibram USA Inc., manufacturers of the popular Vibram FiveFinger shoes designed to replicate barefoot running, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over claims that the shoes improve posture, strengthen muscles, and reduce running-related injuries. Running with minimal footwear or barefoot has gained popularity after the book “Born to Run” was published; the book boasted that a group of runners in Mexico were able to run very long distances in sandals made from old tires.While it is expected that Vibram will be offering refunds ranging from $20–50, the company denies any wrongdoing.
