New research has found no evidence linking saturated fats to heart disease and no positive impact of unsaturated fat consumption on heart disease. The review of nearly 80 studies, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found a connection between trans fats and heart disease, but no increased risk from saturated fats or benefits from unsaturated fats. Experts warn that these findings should not encourage individuals to consume more foods high in saturated fats, as fats studied in isolation may not show all factors contributing to heart disease.
