Study: Chocolate Pills for Cardiovascular Health

A new study by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute will enroll 18,000 men and women nationwide to evaluate the role of cocoa flavanols on cardiovascular health. Previous research has shown that these flavanols can improve blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin, arteries, and other cardiovascular and related functions. The study participants will not be eating the chocolate, but rather ingesting pills containing high concentrations of the flavanols without sugar or fat.
