Novel Device Reduces Needle Sticks with Venipunctures

Velano Vascular announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted marketing clearance for a new device that reduces the need for venipunctures for blood draws in the hospital.

The disposable, single-use Velano Vascular device allows newly placed peripheral intravenous (PIV) catheters to be momentarily repurposed to draw blood from patients. This reduces the need for extra needle sticks to conduct blood draws for most patients with indwelling IVs.

The company's new technology is designed to reduce unnecessary pain and anxiety for patients receiving intravenous medication and hydration, while providing a safer and more efficient work environment for healthcare providers conducting venipunctures.
