Ayurveda dental practices such as oil pulling have been part of oral health regimens in India for a long time.  Oil pulling, which involves swishing either coconut or sesame oil in the mouth, is believed to help in preventing tooth decay and loss by disrupting plaque build-up on the teeth.  Experts however are skeptical of the practice since there is no evidence to say that plaque is fat-soluble. More disturbing are claims that oil pulling is effective in treating other diseases. such as diabetes and acne. Celebrity attention has given the practice more attention in recent months but the American Dental Association has yet to release an official statement, only indicating that more research needs to be done.
