RELATED: Glyxambi Approved for Type 2 Diabetes

Glyxambi is the first approved drug to combine a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor and a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Empagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that reduces renal reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, thereby increasing urinary glucose excretion. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases the concentrations of active incretin hormones, stimulating the release of insulin in a glucose-dependent manner and decreasing the levels of glucagon in the circulation.

Glyxambi is available in 10mg/5mg and 25mg/5mg strength tablets in 30-, 90-, and 1000-count bottles.
