First Handheld Wireless Ultrasound Device in the Works
Clarius Mobile Health has debuted its first handheld ultrasound scanner with a mobile application. The product was showcased at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine Conference in New York.
The Clarius ultrasound scanner is wireless and the mobile application is compatible with most iOS and Android smart devices. It utilizes a secure point-to-point wireless network to connect to the mobile app for imaging. The handheld device is portable for quick exams and to guide procedures such as nerve blocks and targeted injections. It provides high resolution ultrasound images similar to the traditional point-of-care systems. Its magnesium shell allows the device the withstand busy and other unpredictable environments.
"Physicians have been asking for a portable ultrasound system that works with their iPhone for some time," said Laurent Pelissier, Chairman and CEO of Clarius Mobile Health. "The challenge has been to make an affordable device that is small enough to carry around and that also produces great images. I'm happy to say we've succeeded in creating a product that will enable more clinicians to use ultrasound anywhere to improve patient care. It's as easy to use as a mobile phone camera."
Clarius Mobile Health plans to provide several mobile scanners for the price of a single traditional compact system pending regulatory clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Company anticipates filing for regulatory clearance in the spring of 2016.
