The first study to link consumption of fruits and vegetables with all-cause, cancer and heart-disease deaths in a nationally representative population has been published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health. The eating habits of 65,226 individuals from the Health Survey for England between 2001–2013 were reviewed and those who ate ≥7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day had a 42% lower risk of mortality compared to those eating less than one portion per day. The more fruits and vegetables the patients consumed, the less likely they were to die at any age with the protective benefits rising as consumption increased.
