Antibiotic Injectable Coming Off FDA Shortage List
Baxter and Water Street Healthcare partners announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Cefazolin Injection in Galaxy Container. Cefazolin Injection was on the FDA's drug shortage list for over a year due to high demand.
Cefazolin is a cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for preoperative prophylaxis treatment to reduce the incidence off certain postoperative infections for high-risk patients undergoing surgical procedures. The bactericidal agent acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Cefazolin Injection will be available as a 2g/100mL strength frozen premix Galaxy Containers in 12-count cases; the Galaxy Containers use the Company's proprietary aseptic filling manufacturing processes. The product is expected to launch in the 4th quarter of 2015.
