Allergy experts are warning that due to the polar vortex that brought record-setting snowfalls to some parts of the U.S., there will be a delayed flowering for trees and an increase in spring air allergens. The extended colder winter temperatures and snow may lead to a surge in pollinating trees once the weather warms up to make up for the lost time, creating an intensified season for allergy sufferers. Ground moisture from melted snow may also lead to more spore growth that further aggravates allergies. Experts recommend using nasal steroids early and reducing the flow of pollen into the home by closing windows and doors, along with showering before bed.
