Oleptro approved for major depressive disorder (MDD)

The FDA has approved Oleptro (trazodone HCl extended-release tablets, from Labopharm), a once-daily formulation of trazodone, for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.

Exel/Exelint infusion set needles recalled

FDA notified healthcare professionals of a Class I recall of Exel/Exelint Huber needles, Exel/Exelint Huber Infusion Sets, and Exel/Exelint "Securetouch+" Safety Huber Infusion Sets due to 'coring,' the cutting or dislodging of silicone cores or slivers from the ports into which they are inserted).

Seroquel XR (quetiapine fumarate extended-release tablets, from AstraZeneca) has been approved by the FDA as adjunctive treatment to antidepressants in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD).

Zyprexa approved for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder in adolescents

The FDA has approved Zyprexa (olanzapine, from Lilly) tablets for the treatment of schizophrenia and manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adolescents 13-17 years of age.

FDA warns of birth defects with valproate sodium, valproic acid, and divalproex sodium

The FDA has notified healthcare professionals and patients about the increased risk of neural tube defects and other major birth defects (eg, craniofacial defects and cardiovascular malformations) in babies exposed to valproate sodium and related products (valproic acid and divalproex sodium) during pregnancy.
