Smart Shirt Can Track Your Activity, Vitals
the MPR take:
Gadgets to track your activity levels and vitals are flooding the marketplace, but Ralph Lauren’s version gives a different meaning to “wearable devices.” The company’s Polo Tech shirt is comprised of conductive threads woven into the black nylon compression shirt and a small snap-on device weighing less than 1.5 ounces. The module transmits information to a Bluetooth-connected iPhone or iPad on the user’s heart and respiration rates, caloric expenditure, and steps taken per day. The shirt will not be available to the public until 2015, but select ball boys at this year’s U.S. Open tennis tournament will be sporting the technological tee.
The U.S. Open will mark the debut of the Polo Tech “smartshirt,” a snug black nylon compression shirt that will be used by some of the tournament's feeders.
