Following their spring break, 9 students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have been diagnosed with the mumps and a staff member is suspected to also have the disease. This outbreak occurred despite the students having been vaccinated for mumps. Illinois has reported 65 confirmed cases of the mumps this year, compared to only 26 in 2013. Unvaccinated children could be contributing to the increase in the spread of the disease, health officials state.
