Liquid nicotine sold for refilling e-cigarettes (e-liquids) can pose a great danger due to lack of federal regulation and potential for accidental poisoning, particularly among children. In 2013 there was a 300% increase in poisoning cases connected to e-liquids compared to the previous year, and experts are predicting that number will double in 2014. E-cigarettes and their ingredients are currently not federally regulated, although the FDA has stated that it has future plans for regulation. A lethal dose of a higher concentration of e-liquids could be as little as one tablespoon for adults.
