HPV Testing Awareness Higher in US, Knowledge Still Low

Awareness of HPV testing is higher in the U.S. compared to the U.K. and Australia but overall knowledge remains low, particularly among men. An anonymous web-based survey of 1,473 individuals from Australia, the U.S., and the U.K. found that 50% of the sample overall had heard of HPV testing, with 40%, 62%, and 44%, respectively. While there were no significant differences in knowledge score between the countries, men scored significantly lower compared to women in this area. These results highlights that men need to be educated regarding HPV testing, especially as part of clinical management of HPV-related non-cervical cancers.
