Diode Laser Appears Safe, Effective for Treating Facial Skin Laxity
(HealthDay News) — An 810- and 940nm diode laser is safe and efficacious for treating facial skin laxity, according to a study published online July 15 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
Nataya Voravutinon, MD, from the Ministry of Public Health in Bangkok, Thailand, and colleagues examined the efficacy and safety of an 810- and 940nm diode laser for treating facial skin laxity. The authors enrolled 30 patients in the study, with facial skin laxity grading scale II to IV. Patients underwent four treatment sessions over three-week intervals.
The researchers identified significant improvement in laxity of facial skin with the Cutometer MPA 580 F3 and R7 parameters at one and three months after complete treatment, respectively. At one and six months after treatment, physician assessment showed significant improvement in the laxity scale. Mild pain or minor adverse events were reported by approximately 10% of patients. Patient satisfaction was high, with 98% of patients expressing satisfaction with treatment.
"In conclusion, our study suggests that a diode laser (810 and 940nm) is safe and may be an effective treatment for facial skin tightening," the authors write. "Maintenance treatment every two to three months may be the optimum interval for maintaining the results."
