Adult Human Stem Cells Cloned for the First Time
the MPR take:
For the first time, researchers have successfully cloned cells from adult humans using somatic cell nuclear transfer. The research, published in the journal Cell Stem Cell, expands upon the findings reported last year by a team at Oregon Health & Science University, who used the same technique but with fetal or infant cells. This new study confirms that the nuclear transfer method not only works, but is also not dependent upon the age of the donor cell but rather on donor egg quality. While more investigation is needed, the new research seems promising.
