LICE INFESTATION TREATMENTS AND SCABICIDES
 

All products should be applied and removed exactly as directed.
A nit comb must be used to physically remove head lice and nits after treatment.

PEDICULICIDES AND LICE REMOVAL PRODUCTS
benzyl alcohol 5% ULESFIA Rx lotion Treatment of head lice. Avoid contact with eyes. <6months: not recommended. ≥6months: Apply sufficient amount to dry hair to completely saturate scalp and hair. After 10 minutes, thoroughly rinse off with water. Repeat after 7 days. Wash hands after application.
ivermectin 0.5% SKLICE Rx lotion Treatment of head lice. Avoid contact with eyes. <6months: not recommended. ≥6months: Apply sufficient amount (up to 1 tube) to thoroughly coat the hair and scalp. After 10 minutes, thoroughly rinse off with water.
lindane 1% LINDANE SHAMPOO Rx shampoo Treatment of resistant head and pubic lice; not for prophylactic use or Norwegian (crusted) scabies. Potential toxicities: seizures, aplastic anemia, renal disorders. For single application only; do not reapply. Do not exceed maximum recommended doses. Wear gloves when applying; avoid other unnecessary exposure.
malathion 0.5% OVIDE Rx lotion Treatment of head lice. For use on scalp only. May repeat in 7–9 days, if needed. Product is flammable.
permethrin 1% NIX OTC cream rinse Treatment of head lice. Repeat in 7 days if live lice are evident. Also for prophylaxis of head lice in institutional epidemics.
Caution: chrysanthemum or ragweed allergy.
pyrethrins 0.3% + piperonyl butoxide 3% R&C OTC shampoo Must repeat in 7–10 days.
Caution: ragweed allergy.
pyrethrum extract 0.33% + piperonyl butoxide 4% A-200 OTC shampoo Must repeat in 7–10 days.
Caution: ragweed allergy.

RID LICE KILLING NO-DRIP MOUSSE OTC mousse
spinosad 0.9% NATROBA Rx topical susp Treatment of head lice. Avoid contact with eyes. <4yrs: not recommended. ≥4yrs: Apply up to 120mL (one bottle) to dry scalp and hair until adequately covered. After 10min, thoroughly rinse off with warm water. May repeat after 7 days, if needed. Wash hands after application.
NIT REMOVAL AIDS
behanamidopropyl dimethylamine RID EGG & NIT COMB OUT GEL OTC gel Only for use as adjunct to RID shampoo to remove nits, not for use alone. Must repeat in 7–10 days.
dimethicone 100% RID PURE ALTERNATIVE OTC gel Apply gel to dry hair. After 10 minutes, use provided comb to remove nits. Shampoo. Repeat as needed.
PEDICULICIDES, LICE, AND NIT REMOVAL PRODUCTS
dimethicone LICEMD OTC gel To eliminate lice, enkk and nits from head and body hair. Dye- and pesticide-free. Use provided comb to remove lice, enkk and nits. Shampoo with warm water. Inspect hair for 10 days. Repeat as needed.
SCABICIDES
crotamiton 10% EURAX Rx cream or emollient-base lotion Reapply after 24 hours.
lindane 1% LINDANE LOTION Rx lotion Treatment of resistant scabies or in patients intolerant of other therapies; not for prophylactic use or Norwegian (crusted) scabies. Potential toxicities: seizures, aplastic anemia, renal disorders. For single application only; do not reapply. Do not exceed maximum recommended doses. Wear gloves when applying; avoid other unnecessary exposure.
permethrin 5% ACTICIN Rx cream One application is usually effective; may repeat in 14 days if living mites are still present.
Caution: pyrethrins, pyrethroids, or chrysanthemum allergy.
ELIMITE Rx cream
