Teva has launched Estradiol Vaginal Inserts 10mcg, the generic version of Novo Nordisk's Vagifem.

Vagifem is an estrogen (estradiol) indicated for the treatment of atrophic vaginitis due to menopause.  The lack of endogenous estrogens, responsible for development and maintenance of the female reproductive system, during menopause results in thinning and shrinking of the tissue.

Symptoms associated with the shrinking of tissue include vaginal dryness, vaginal and/or vulvar irritation/itching, vaginal soreness, dysuria, dyspareunia, and vaginal bleeding associated with intercourse. Local estrogen therapy has been shown to restore vaginal pH and resvascularize the vaginal and urethral mucosa, improving vaginal dryness and mucosal atrophy.

Estradiol Vaginal Inserts will be available as a 10mcg strength in 2x4 and 3x6 blister packs with applicators.
