Teva announced the launch of Amlodipine and Valsartan Tablets, the generic version of Novartis' Exforge.

Exforge is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It combines amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, and valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker. Amlodipine is a peripheral arterial vasodilator that acts directly on vascular smooth muscle to cause a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance and reduction in blood pressure. Valsartan blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland.

Amlodipine and Valsartan Tablets are available as 5mg/160mg, 5mg/320mg, 10mg/160mg, and 10mg/320mg strengths in 30- and 90-count bottles.
