Mylan Launches First Generic Nuvigil

Mylan announced the launch of Armodafinil Tablets, the first generic version of Cephalon's Nuvigil.

Nuvigil is a wakefulness-promoter indicated to improve wakefulness in patients with excessive sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder (SWSD); and as adjunct to standard treatment for underlying airway obstruction in OSAHS.

The exact mechanism(s) through which armodafinil promotes wakefulness is unknown. Both armodafinil and modafinil are thought to have wake-promoting actions similar to sympathomimetic agents, including amphetamine and methylphenidate, although their pharmacologic profile is not identical to that of the sympathomimetic amines. 

Armodafinil Tablets are available as 50mg, 150mg, and 250mg strengths.
