Generic Name and Formulations:
Piroxicam 10mg, 20mg; caps.
Indications for FELDENE:
Osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis.
20mg daily. May give in 2 divided doses.
Aspirin or other NSAID allergy. Coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
Increased risk of serious cardiovascular events, MI, and stroke. Increased risk of serious GI adverse events (eg, inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, perforation). History of ulcer disease or GI bleeding. Fluid retention. Heart failure. Hypertension; monitor BP closely. Advanced renal disease: not recommended. Pre-existing asthma. CYP2C9 poor metabolizers. Hepatic or renal dysfunction. Coagulation disorders. Monitor CBCs, blood chemistry, hepatic and renal function in long-term therapy. Discontinue if signs/symptoms of liver or renal disease develop, or if abnormal liver function tests persist or worsen. Reversible delayed ovulation. Discontinue if rash or other signs of hypersensitivity occur. Debilitated. Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration. Elderly. Debilitated. Labor & delivery. Pregnancy (Cat.C: 1st and 2nd trimester); (Cat.D: 3rd trimester; avoid). Nursing mothers.
Avoid concomitant aspirin. Increased risk of GI bleed with anticoagulants (monitor), oral corticosteroids, smoking, alcohol, or prolonged NSAID therapy. May antagonize ACE inhibitors, diuretics; monitor closely. Caution with lithium or methotrexate; monitor for toxicity. May affect or be affected by CYP2C9 inhibitors or substrates.
Edema, anorexia, abdominal pain, GI upset, peptic ulcer, bleeding/perforation, elevated liver enzymes, dizziness, headache, anemia, pruritus, rash, abnormal renal function, tinnitus; serious skin reactions, serum sickness, cardiovascular events (see full labeling).
