Infographic: How Prevalent is Autism?

Autism spectrum (ASD) is defined as a range of neurodevelopmental disorders that include social impairments, communication problems, and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Autistic disorder, or autism, is considered the most severe form of ASD [NINDS].

It is estimated that 1 in 88 children in the U.S. has been diagnosed with ASD. But just how prevalent is autism when we compare it to other conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and ADHD?

The infographic below illustrates some important facts on this disorder, including the prevalence of autism as compared to more destructive diseases, as well as the medical costs associated with raising a child with autism.
