Indications for DORAL:

Insomnia.

Adult Dose for DORAL:

≥18yrs: 15mg at bedtime. May reduce to 7.5mg at bedtime after 1–2 days.

Children's Dose for DORAL:

<18yrs: not recommended.

Elderly:

Initially 7.5mg at bedtime; may increase to 15mg after 1–2 days.

Pharmacological Class:

Benzodiazepine.

Contraindications:

Sleep apnea. Pregnancy (Cat.X).

Warnings/Precautions:

Drug or alcohol abuse. Avoid prolonged use. Withdraw gradually. Suicidal tendencies. Depression. Pulmonary, renal, or hepatic disease. Elderly. Debilitated. Nursing mothers: not recommended.

Interactions:

Potentiates CNS depression with alcohol, other CNS depressants. May potentiate CYP2B6 substrates (eg, efavirenz, buproprion); monitor.

Adverse Reactions:

CNS depression, complex sleep-related behaviors (eg, sleep-driving), ataxia, headache, dry mouth, GI upset, paradoxical excitement; anaphylaxis, angioedema.
