Indications for DESOXYN:

Short-term management of exogenous obesity.

Adult Dose for DESOXYN:

5mg 3 times daily 30 minutes before meals.

Children's Dose for DESOXYN:

Not recommended.

Pharmacological Class:

Amphetamine.

Contraindications:

During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Glaucoma. Cardiovascular disease. Arteriosclerosis. Hypertension. Hyperthyroidism. Drug or alcohol abuse. Agitated states.

Warnings/Precautions:

Discontinue after a few weeks as tolerance to anorectic effect occurs. Acute stress reactions. Tourette's syndrome. Psychosis. Diabetes. Epilepsy. Prescribe limited ℞. Monitor growth in children. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers: not recommended.

Interactions:

Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. Blocks guanethidine.

Adverse Reactions:

Impairment in hazardous activities, arrhythmias, hypertension, CNS stimulation, psychosis, dry mouth, GI disturbances, urticaria, impotence.
