Generic Name and Formulations:

Ferric iron 210mg (equivalent to 1g ferric citrate); tabs.

Select therapeutic use:

Indications for AURYXIA:

Treatment of iron deficiency anemia in adults with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis.

Adult:

Take with meals. Initially 1 tab three times daily; titrate as needed to achieve hemoglobin target levels; max 12 tabs/day.

Children:

Not established.

Contraindications:

Iron overload syndromes (eg, hemochromatosis).

Warnings/Precautions:

Monitor serum phosphorus. Assess iron parameters (eg, serum ferritin, TSAT) prior to initiation and monitor during therapy. Inflammatory bowel disease. Active GI bleeding. Accidental iron overdose (esp. in children <6yrs); may be fatal. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.

Pharmacological Class:

Hematinic.

Interactions:

Concomitant IV iron; may require dose reduction or discontinuation of IV therapy. Give doxycycline at least 1hr before Auryxia. Give ciprofloxacin at least 2hrs before or after Auryxia. Concomitant drugs with narrow therapeutic range; consider monitoring.

Adverse Reactions:

Diarrhea, discolored feces, constipation, nausea, vomiting, cough, abdominal pain, hyperkalemia; iron overload.
